It's a film about freedom. This is a film about resilience. This is a film about faith, Smith said of Emancipation, directed by Antoine Fuqua. Ever since Will Smith won an Oscar and slapped Chris Rock, his career has been in free fall.
Now the former Prince Fresco wants to prove that his crown still has some sparkle. The fate of the film, as well as several of Smith's projects, was left in the air after the slap that was not seen but talked about all over the world. But Apple, the producer of Emancipation, organized a screening with the NAACP during the 51st Annual Legislative Conference of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation before an audience of social impact leaders, demonstrating its intention to release the film soon. And with the Oscars just around the corner.
However, if Smith and Emancipation create a stir for the Oscars, Smith won't be able to attend the ceremony, or any ceremony, for 10 years.
