It started last year when I downloaded lots of free books for our Kindle – I found one called “Hydrofracked?  One Man’s Mystery Leads to Backlash Against Natural Gas Drilling” and read it while on vacation in Cancun.  It was eye-opening – I had no idea that this practice was taking place and I knew that things had to change.

Do you know what Fracking is?  In the simplest terms, it’s a way of drilling for natural gas that involves shooting water mixed with chemicals into shale at high pressure to release the natural gas held inside the rock.   Right off the bat, the whole ‘water mixed with chemicals’ should give you pause – after all, they’re sending this toxic water deep down into the earth – who knows what else they’re affecting, right?  Well, that’s why the Anti-Fracking movement is gaining such ground.

It’s not an issue here in Arizona, but I believe we all need to play a part to stop environmental tragedies whether they’re in our backyard or not – and that’s why I’m helping my blogger friends behind the fabulous new endeavor, Bloggers Inspiring Change.

They’ve teamed up with environmental celebrities Ed Begley Jr. and Raphael Sbarge (who stars on hit show Once Upon A Time – one of my favorite shows!) to create a PSA – please take the time to watch it:

This is a great partnership between bloggers and celebrities who desperately want to make a change and stop fracking and hold the companies who utilize it accountable for the chemicals left behind and the families affected when their ground water is turned from clean, healthy water to an undrinkable toxic mess.

Beyond this PSA, BloggersInspiringChange.org and the various participants ask that viewers at home get involved in fighting fracking in their communities by writing to your elected officials or supporting organizations such as http://www.ecowatch.org.
