It’s so easy for me, while Sarah’s three, to pretend like I’ll always be able to make sure she dresses modestly and covers herself. She loves to wear dresses, but she also is a rough and tumble girl – she plays and rolls around and is like every other kid in that aspect. So, how can I be frugal, keep her modest (so she’s not showing her underwear to everyone when she rolls around?) and also reuse?
Here, we have a pair of Sarah’s black leggings. There are several problems with these leggings:
1) There is a paint stain on the leg (how did she get ahold of non-washable white paint? NO IDEA)
2) They are size 4T, which is too small for Sarah right now.
3) Four words: BLACK LEGGINGS, PHOENIX SUMMER. Doesn’t jive!
I’m sure you’ve all seen the products out there for young girls to wear under their dresses - bike shorts, other products – they can all add extra cost. I don’t think it’s necessary to spend extra money on those items!
Voila! With scissors (and fairly straight cutting skills), I now have a useable pair of shorts for Sarah to wear under one of her many dresses.
I also use the legs as rags – since we don’t use paper towels, I can always use more rags for cleaning
What do you think? How do you keep your daughter modest? Any frugal or eco-friendly tips?

We also like to keep our daughter modest. My daughter wears shorts under her dresses too. You could also use some hemming tape and “sew” those shorts up with that. I usually just get hand-me-downs or go to garage sales for pants and shorts she can wear under dresses. It is funny that your daughter managed to get paint on her. My oldest daughter is very active and I am always cleaning weird stuff off of the knee of her paints. I am stopping by from WWFM. Hope to see you at True Aim. Thanks for sharing.

My girls love to wear dresses and skirts. This is a great idea.
Great tip! Since I have three girls, they tend to wear each others clothes often!

Great idea. Sweet T is still in diapers so I don’t worry too much about it. When she gets older though these will be a must under skirts and dresses. Little girls need to be free to run around as much as they’d like without flashing panties.
