The more I become interested in changing our lifestyles to be more eco-friendly, the more I realize that there are so many aspects of my life that being fair, eco-friendy, or eco-aware impacts.  It’s really something that impacts all aspects of your life – from groceries, to clothing, to shoes, appliances, housing and even something as simple as flowers.

I love flowers, and I can bet most of you do, too – and that’s why when I’m shopping for flowers I first and foremost try to go as local as possible.  Farmer’s Markets are a great spot to find locally grown flowers that are also usually organic.  They’re going to be more expensive than flowers from the grocery store, of course, but it’s worth the extra cost in my opinion.   Farmers in your local area have more of an interest in staying ‘green’ or organic, and those farming methods typically cost much more than farming with pesticides on large parcels of land.

But what what if the person you want to buy flowers for isn’t in the same city as you are, though?  What if they aren’t even in the same country?  How can you find flowers that are ethically grown and also can be delivered to someone in the UK, Australia, Canada, or beyond?   I think I have a solution for you!

Those flowers above?  They’re flowers by Interflora, and not only are they beautiful, but they’re fair trade as well – which means the farmers who grow the flowers are receiving fair wages for their work.  It also means there’s a premium for their flowers, which means more money in their pockets.  It’s so similar to purchasing flowers at a local farmer’s market – except across the ocean instead of across town!

These beautiful Fairtrade Sunflowers from Interflora would brighten anyone’s day – especially if they’re far from home or far from you, don’t you think?

My favorite flower has always been the alstromeria - it’s also called a ‘day lily’ and it’s simple, beautiful and uncomplicated (like me - HA HA HA).

What’s your favorite flower to receive?  Do you try to buy ‘green’ or fair trade flowers?
