I’ve been researching oatmeal for awhile – it’s no secret that I love steel cut oats for breakfast, and so do my kids. (most days, at least)
The problem is that it can take so long to make in the morning, and I am not a fan of the slow cooker method – it never seems to work out for me – the oats always end up gummy and pasty and unappetizing!
I researched soaking oats and found lots of recipes with multiple ingredients, and most ingredients were things I’d have to buy. So, I experimented and came up with this super simple solution.
1/2C Oats
1C milk (or milk alternative of your choice)
Combine in glass bowl.
Place in fridge overnight.
In morning, oats will be soft.
I warm mine up over low heat in a stainless steel pot – it takes less than 5 minutes!
My kids love theirs with real, organic maple syrup, grassfed butter, and a hint of cinnamon. Try it!
Do you have any super simple breakfast tips? I’d love to hear them!

I am a huge fan of egg whites cooked with veggies in the morning!

Hooray! I’ve been needing this tip! I LOVE steel cut oats, but I only eat them occasionally because I’m not one for making a breakfast that I have to wait on.
I definitely agree with you on the crock pot oats – too gummy and yucky. I’m going to go soak some oats now so I can try this in the morning. Thank you!
